Finger-Print Love Heart Fridge Magnets
Take finger-painting to the next level with this activity by make beautiful love heart fridge magnets for children to take home. Ideal for Valentines Day craft!
What you will need:
Preparing the activity
Other than gathering all the materials together and setting out a suitable table, there is nothing you need to prepare ahead of this activity.
Doing the activity:
The first step for this activity is the painting. Ask each child to do a series of fingerprints in red paint all in a small area of piece of paper. The idea is to create a solid area of paint where the fingerprints are still discernable. If necessary, demonstrate to the children how to do a firm print and life off, rather than "smushing" the paint around the paper.
Once a suitably sized area has been painted, it's time to cut out the loveheart shapes. How you proceed will depend on the age of the children involved:
- Very young children may need you to cut the shape out for them
- Some children may like to use a template to draw around, and then cut out along the lines
- The eldest children may be able to use the template as a visual reminder of the shape, and then have a go at cutting a love heart out free hand.
When each child has at least one love heart to work with, hand out the glass domes (or Cabochons). Each one will need a thin layer of glue painted onto the flat bottom, and then the love heart stuck to it. Make sure the hearts are being stuck with the painted side facing down into the dome!
Finally, apply another layer of glue to a magnet, and attach to the bottom of the love heart. Once dried, these domes will form a lovely valentines gift which children can take home for parents, or other family members.
